Serendipity, Christmas Style
aka The Polar (Stork) Express

If you are vaguely acquainted with me, and unless you live under a rock [except for Patrick Star, who DOES live under a rock], you know about the arrival of our little saint, Nicholas. A whopping eight (8) days old now, and still cute as a button.

Where’s the serendipity, you say?

from The Sure Thing (1985):

Lady in Car: What are you gonna name it?
Alison Bradbury: What?
Lady in Car: The baby.
Alison Bradbury: Well, if it's a girl, Cynthia, and if it's a boy, Elliot.
Lady in Car: Those are lovely names.
Walter (Gib) Gibson: Elliot? You're gonna name the kid Elliot? No, you can't name the kid Elliot. Elliot is a fat kid with glasses who eats paste. You're not gonna name the kid Elliot. You gotta give him a real name. Give him a name. Like Nick.
Alison Bradbury: Nick?
Walter (Gib) Gibson: Yeah, Nick. Nick’s the kinda guy you can trust. Nick’s your buddy. Nick’s the kinda guy you drink beers with. The kinda guy that doesn't care if you puke (oh, excuse me, vomit) in his car. Nick.

Then there are the twins on Full House. No, not those twins (MaryKate & Ashley), Jessie & Rebecca’s twins, Alex and Nicky. The Calvinator immediately started in with “Hi Nicky, Hi Nicky, Hi Nicky!!” and regales the Nickster whenever his eyes are open. He is loath to admit it, but my soon-to-be-7-year-old seems to be smitten with Nicholas as well.

And how about 50 First Dates (which we just love!!) - big kahuna with tattooed face @ the café = Nick

Or how about SpongeBob’s home network (the Calvinator is HUGE SBSP fan): NICKelodeon.

Coincidence?

Mr. Martini’s bartender in It’s A Wonderful Life: Nick

Did you also know that all the sponges harvested in the US come from one place, Tarpon Springs, off Florida’s west coast. And did you further know that most of the sponge divers are Greek? We have a library book right now entitled: Sponges Are Skeletons. On page 26, there is a picture of two (2) sponge-fishing boats, one named N. Cretakos and the other named St. Nikolaus.

Coincidence?

I think not.

Of course, one useful thing to know is that since about the 4th century, Nicholas has risen in popularity, owing to a jolly fat man in a red suit…

Breathe.
Evolve.
Laugh.
