Midnight Feeding
qzen42 feels

when you're 4 months old, time means little. you live by your hunger, your thirst, your five senses. the world seems to dance in front of you. familiar faces, sounds make you smile. you are not concerned with plans and schedules. you are still a human BEING. if you're hungry @ 1am you cry. period. when you're diaper causes discomfort, you cry. period.

an infant is quite a teacher, if you pay attention.

the Tao of ______

qzen42 feels

dang. this is a topic waiting for a story. far be it from me to use a well worn cliche, but i have long wanted to journal about this. i suppose a hot-button for me is zealots. Mountain bikers who eat, breathe and live mountain bikes. Scrabble players who eat, live and breathe Scrabble. Bloggers who eat, breathe and live Blogs.

people who practice the Tao of _______ .

don't get me wrong. i enjoy passionate people. i am passionate about my family, my work, swimming, self awareness. i just am wary of people who purport to know everything about _______. behind my veneer is someone who tries to understand things organically, but often feels like he is missing the boat, or at least, the point.

maybe i should write a book.

Curly was wrong!!

Not this Curly.

This one.

Ever since I saw City Slickers (omg 1991), I have been wrestling with the notion that the secret to life is one thing...that's what you got to find out.

While the romantic and philosophical appeal is obvious, I don't believe it is quite this simple. One take is easy:

the Tao.

But when I really try to reduce what I've learned so far, the best I can do is a collection of ideas that ensure my survival and foster learning and growth.

breathe
survive. learn and understand the essential things that keep you alive.
evolve
grow. adapt. change. expand your horizons. explore possibility.
laugh
never ever take yourself too seriously. practice awareness. match your response to the stimulus, the situation.

Curly was on the right track. Find something that you are passionate about. But don't quit growing once you do.

Swimming on Land
qzen42 is

Yesterday's frustrations have drifted away. I have found my way back to peacefulness.

Here's a book I might get:

Drawing for Dummies

Great. I start a Blog, and at the moment, I've run out of things to say. Talk about irony.

Stormy
qzen42 is

ahhh. my power to express myself increases.

so what. big deal.

iconophile

i admit it. i am getting addicted to representing my world (esp. browser bookmarks) with icons. anyone else got this little issue?

why? well, for one, they are much easier to identify when you are looking through a long list of bookmarks.

for two, it's fun.

now the next thing i suppose i have to do is create a set to indicate my *mood* here in BlogLand

stay tuned.

42

Tao gave birth to One,
One gave birth to Two,
Two gave birth to Three,
Three gave birth to all the myriad things.

All the myriad things carry the Yin on their backs and
hold the Yang in their embrace,
Deriving their vital harmony from the proper blending
of the two vital Breaths.

I have long wondered if Douglas Adams didn't intentionally choose 42 as the Answer to the Question of Life, the Universe and Everything because of the Tao Te Ching. Above is chapter 42. Is it only coincidence? Douglas Adams seemed like a Zen Dinosaur to me.

Meanwhile, my number series (all the myriad things):
1 - Tao
2 - Yin Yang
3 - mind, body, spirit
4 - north, south, east, west
4 - (alt) john, paul, george, ringo
5 - wood, fire, earth, metal, water
5 - (alt) sight, hearing, taste, smell, touch
6 - degrees of separation
7 - days of the week, yada, yada, yada
8 - to the bar
9 - planets
10 - most wanted

i know there are other lists.

Unlikely Bedfellows

two businesses sharing the same small office building: holistic doctor and guns/ammo retailer.

business sign:

Total Health

Cash for Guns

hmmmm.

Nocturnal Emissions

Ah-ha. made you look.

given the proliferation of blogs on the web, the probability of you reading my blog is approximately Zero. unless you happen to be a Zen Dinosaur.

my point? i'm not particularly sure, other than the fact that the rise of blogs must certainly follow a trend for folks to conduct more and more aspects of their life on-line.

there is some subtle cachet to the possibility that anyone in the world with a modem and browser might come to view my ramblings and meanderings.

i have started poking around in other's blogs as well. i guess part of the allure is the rawness of it all, not the highly honed PC or, at least, market-targeted messages of more commercial sites. for most of us, life happens in an ever so pedestrian fashion.

the real story is, i'm looking for another community. the one's i participate in now are fine, friendly, secure, familiar. but familiarity often breeds contempt.

so, fellow traveler, if you happen across this blog, consider yourself a potential Zen Dinosaur.

1 of my favorite sites:

http://www.google.com

i know, i know, it's just a search engine. but it is the one of the best places to start on the web.

e.g. Life 101

this is really what the average Zen Dinosaur is all about. so i type "Life 101" into google and Bam!

Life 101 is a book!

now i probably have to read it.

those three words comprise the philosophy of a Zen Dinosaur.

"Resistance is futile."

those three words comprise the philosophy of the Borg; more accurately:

"Resitance is futile."
"You will be assimilated."

and so my assimilation into the Matrix continues (am i mixing my metaphors?) with entry into the Blog space. but i am bound and determined to explore this strange community of the internet.

and besides, its *free*

welcome to my brain.
